Crystals or gemstones that align with the seven chakras promote spiritual healing and can be used in many different ways during meditation, including placing them directly onto your body or wearing them as jewelry.
Some of the more popular chakra stones include green aventurine, malachite, lapis lazuli and rose quartz – each possessing unique properties and energies.
Root chakra
The Root Chakra (Muladhara) represents our primal energy for survival. A healthy Root Chakra promotes feelings of safety, strength, and grounding while an imbalanced one can lead to anxiety, fear, distrust, digestive issues and back pain – as well as feelings of weakness and deficiency.
To help activate and balance this vital chakra, practice grounding meditation and yoga poses. You may try spraying Aveda’s Root Chakra Balancing Pure-Fume Mist into a quiet space before taking deep diaphragmatic breaths while visualizing red energy coursing along your spine’s base. Or you could practice grounding by walking barefoot on earth or using energy healing technique Earthing; additionally try practicing gratitude while connecting with physical senses for an enhanced sense of self.
Sacral chakra
The sacral chakra, commonly referred to as Svadhisthana, regulates feelings of pleasure, creativity and healthy emotional connections. Situated at the lower abdomen level, this vibrant orange energy center helps us develop our sense of self-worth and confidence.
Unbalanced chakras may lead to feelings of emotional instability and an inability to form connections with others, often as a result of past traumas that cause fear and insecurity around relationships.
Balance in the sacral chakra allows you to be more open and accepting of emotions as they flow freely, adapting more readily to life’s changes and challenges, similar to water does. This facilitates experiencing joy, pleasure, as well as connecting to creative energies within yourself.
Solar plexus chakra
Manipura or solar plexus chakra is where your personal power lies. When balanced, it allows for feelings of confidence, capacity and taking actions towards making things happen; but when out-of-whack, you could face self-esteem issues and control issues that lead to anxiety or control issues.
Citrine, Tiger’s Eye and Golden Calcite crystals all help strengthen this energy center and help increase confidence, strengthen boundaries and overcome emotional stagnation.
Try Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist), which stimulates this chakra. This simple pose will help you identify what’s essential and release anything that doesn’t serve your well-being; making this practice essential to living life with more purpose, clarity and courage.
Heart chakra
At its heart center, this chakra connects us to love and compassion. As an anchor between the lower three chakras and higher ones like throat and third eye chakras, it links physical sensations with emotions and spirituality.
The heart chakra is closely associated with emotional development in childhood, including developing empathy, forging relationships and healing from trauma at this formative stage of growth.
Unbalanced heart chakras can lead to physical symptoms like chest tightness or tightening, fatigue and lack of joy. Yoga and meditation, particularly practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation (metta), may help open this chakra – this simple practice involves sending well wishes out with the intent to increase love and kindness among everyone involved.
Throat chakra
The throat chakra (Vishuddha) is about communication and speaking your truth. When this chakra is properly balanced and healthy, you’re able to express yourself clearly while respecting others; confidently and openly sharing thoughts and emotions without judgment or criticism from anyone around you.
However, when your throat chakra is out of balance, communication may become restricted and stagnant. Unhealthy communication habits may create miscommunication and lead to misinterpretations which harm relationships.
To heal your throat chakra, try meditations that focus on breathwork and chanting “ham” mantras. Additionally, use blue-hued stones like lapis lazuli, turquoise or aquamarine as healing crystals – whether as jewelry or in your home to promote healing.
