If it’s groundbreaking single-player, first-person magic shooting you are after, there’s pretty much just the one game for you – Immortals of Aveum.
This one comes from the EA and Ascendant Studios teams. As Immortals of Aveum releases on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. In doing so, it allows players to join the order of the battlemages in hope of saving a world.
Saving the world – AGAIN
Yeah yeah, saving the world AGAIN. But Immortals of Aveum looks to do things a little different to the hundreds (thousands?) or other games on the market with the same goals. Whilst this one makes the most of first person ideas, running single player lines, it’s the combination of magic and shooting that does it for us.
It’s present and correct for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC players. And there’s no doubt that Immortals of Aveum looks to be a bit classy. You just need to take in the trailers and screenshots to understand that. But it’ll be in the gameplay where we hope this one really shines, as players look to master the force of magic, throwing out spells like there is no tomorrow.
And yes, you may notice a severe lack of mention of Xbox One or PlayStation 4. That’s for good reason as Immortals of Aveum is making the most of new-gen technology. As such, you won’t be playing this on older consoles. Is that a bad thing? Perhaps for some, but at least EA and Ascendant are going all out with making the most of their game.
Join Jak
It’s the life of Jak which awaits any Immortals of Aveum player. But from there, all manner of chaos will be unlocked. With a world on the edge of destruction, a ton of skills and spells to make the most of, and some seriously fluid, super swift combat, the combinations of elements should ensure Immortals of Aveum on Xbox, PlayStation and PC is one to get involved in. It’s probably helped by the fact that the team behind it is led by the Dead Space Creative Director.
We’ll of course let you know how it plays in full review, but the key features you need to consider are…
- Be The Battlemage Join the order of Immortals, the champion protectors of Lucium, and become Jak, an elite Triarch Magnus.
- Master Your Magic Fast, fluid, first person spell-based combat that’s easy to learn and satisfying to master, where players are rewarded for clever chained attacks and well-timed counters.
- Unleash Your Arsenal of Spells Unlock and upgrade more than 25 spells and 80 talents.
- Discover, upgrade and craft hundreds of pieces of magical gear to synergize your playstyle across all three forces of magic.
- Save a World on the Edge of Abyss Jak and Lucium’s elite Immortals must race to uncover the mysteries of Aveum’s past, if there’s any hope of saving its future.

A launch trailer with a difference
Take in the launch trailer too – EA and Ascendant have partnered with Jufu of TikTok fame.
“At its core, Immortals of Aveum is about a hero’s journey, as Jak grows into and learns to utilize his unique abilities. Jufu’s on a similar journey and his music really resonated with us as an expression of Jak’s personality and swagger. Additionally, with our soundtrack featuring several different genres of music from hip-hop, orchestral, electronic, chill, ambient, and industrial, partnering with Jufu to bring his unique sound to the launch trailer was a no-brainer. We’re thrilled to have partnered with Julian in a way that’s authentic to him and our game,” said Bret Robbins, CEO and Game Director at Ascendant Studios.
