When many people think of crystal healing chances are they think of someone chanting in a dimly lit room (probably candlelight for dramatic effect) placing the stones on your body as they call on spirits to fix all of your ailments.

According to Rebecca Singleton of Metta Healing a lot of the time that’s just not the case, for her she tries to meet people where they’re comfortable.

Starting off her alternative therapy journey with Reiki over 22 years ago it seemed natural to her to venture into the world of all things crystals with the help of her friend and fellow healer Brian McMullen.

And don’t be fooled Rebecca doesn’t think she can help cure every illness under the sun with her stones, but she hopes her work can help people to reveal stress and find a sense of calm.

But it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try it, if you have an issue she explains that it’s worth a shot. ‘I’ve had clients come to me for physical issues. It can be used for anything really,’ she explains.

‘It can help restore the body’s energy and I suppose with anything that’s going on with your body. It’s usually down to some sort of disruption or imbalance.’

The healer understands that there are certain misconceptions that come with working in her field and she doesn’t like to make things too abstract for the hopeful yet apprehensive folks that come to her for help.

‘I’m a very grounded person myself and I try even in the healing sessions not to make things “woo woo” because I know some people like that but that’s certainly not me anyway.’

And it seems to be this approach that has seen her welcome people who would have never considered alternative therapies through her doors, even the hardest people to impress: dads.

‘I’ve had people who’ve sent their dads and they would never have had anything like this done before and I’ve seen that they’re relaxed afterward or feeling a bit calm and quiet in the mind,’ Rebecca explains with a laugh.

Though you don’t have to be of any certain belief to try a session, instead she emphasises the importance of being open to channelling positive energy or ‘source energy’ as she calls it, comparing it to other holistic treatments such as acupuncture or reflexology.

It’s not all rocks though, wands can be used in sessions to direct energies helping to amplify or clarify their healing potential, or sometimes it’s simply just down to where they’re placed on the body.

But what if you’re not ready to go in for a full session with a healer and you want to give things ago by yourself at home first?

‘I think at this stage we’ve all seen the TikToks that say, “Use x crystal for y problem,” or “this one can help your depression,” but Rebecca insists it doesn’t have to be that complicated.

Though there are things to be mindful of such as cleansing and how crystals are like sponges that absorb energy, it’s okay to go with your gut when it comes to picking a stone to take home.

‘Everyone’s unique and we all would respond to a specific crystal in a different way. People can use their intuition like whatever crystal you’re drawn to, and that’s usually the best way, we all know ourselves usually quite well!’

Though it may be hard to understand how these simple stones can help clear your mind, Rebecca and her clients have seen physical changes in the rocks once they start working.

‘I had a client I gave her a big chunk of rose quartz. She was going through a very difficult breakup. And she told me, about two weeks after getting it the colour started green and it shattered.’

Well on that note I’m going to start carrying rose quartz on my morning commute to absorb all the negative Luas energy.
