The Bible describes spiritual gifts as supernatural abilities granted to humans by God’s Holy Spirit, such as healing, miracles, prophecy and more.
These gifts enable believers to connect the Scriptures and Gospel with their everyday lives in this world, communicating Jesus Christ’s truth and reality accurately and directly.
Knowledge Gifts
The Bible lists several spiritual gifts, but knowledge does not feature on its list. Some Christians speculate that this is because God’s church already possesses enough wisdom and an in-depth knowledge of scripture to forego further knowledge gifts.
Others believe God uses this gift to provide vital information that aids church growth and encourages fellow believers. People with this gift often receive supernatural insights to pinpoint root causes or understand complex situations more readily, or receive details about past, present or future events they would not have otherwise known about. It works in tandem with wisdom and prophecy gifts as well as providing healing (see 1 Corinthians 12:8-10).
Wisdom Gifts
These gifts allow us to understand the complexities of life and make sound decisions, making them one of the most useful assets in the church and helping Believers live like Jesus today.
Paul mentions wisdom as one of the gifts from God given through the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:8. Though seemingly mundane, wisdom is nonetheless an invaluable asset that shouldn’t be overlooked.
People gifted with wisdom have an uncanny knack of unraveling the secrets of salvation with incredible ease, as well as offering advice, counsel, and instruction to fellow Christians.
Joseph experienced such a spiritual gift through dreams. Joseph received guidance in this form to flee with Mary and Jesus to Egypt in order to escape Herod.
Communication Gifts
The Holy Spirit equips believers with different forms of communication gifts that serve to edify and uphold other disciples of Jesus. These abilities may also be used for teaching, instructing, helping people expand their faith and spiritual maturity and providing leadership within the church.
Word of Wisdom is one of the speaking gifts that allows people to understand biblical truth and apply it effectively in everyday situations with wisdom and discernment. People gifted in this area enjoy studying complex subjects deeply, serving as mentors or creating content which can be used by other Christians, such as Bible study materials.
Other communication gifts include evangelism, prophecy, pastoring, teaching and exhortation. Tongues and miracles were given during Apostolic times as a sign from God and to deliver new understanding to His people; however they have since subsided following the death of their last Apostle.
Empathy Gifts
Empaths possess an unusually deep ability to feel the emotions of others – nearly to their point of indignation. While this trait may sometimes prove overwhelming, empaths also possess a natural talent for helping those struggling with life issues.
Empathy gifts often stem from having an indescribably deep spiritual connection, fuelling them to show mercy and kindness toward others in need. Such people can bring healing in both physical and emotional forms.
Empaths possess the unique gift of empathy, enabling them to recognize emotional undercurrents in any group setting and act as peacemakers and mediators. Their sensitivity allows them to sense people’s energy at an atomic level – something regular meditation helps empaths do by learning how to separate their own feelings from that of others’, which helps keep them balanced and grounded.
Healing Gifts
Healing gifts are the ability to channel God’s healing power through believers to provide comfort for sickness and disease, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual issues. People possessing this gift are driven to assist others with their problems by using this power; many prayer ministries employ healing ministers.
When ministering, ministers know that their healing power comes from Jehovah Rapha (Lord our Healer), not themselves. When ministering, their main goal should be bringing glory and honor to God rather than receiving recognition or notice themselves.
Paul taught that once believers receive the Holy Spirit, He will bestow His gifts according to His will; thus not all Christians possessing healing skills at once.
