Sage smudging kits provide an effective means of cleansing both yourself and your environment of any negative energy that clings to certain spaces or objects – it releases this negative energy through fragrant smoke from the herb used.
Before beginning to smudge, set an intention. Your intention can range from clearing away clutter in a room or welcoming positivity, or grounding yourself.
White Sage
Sage has long been used in spiritual ceremonies to aid healing, reflect, or connect with intuition. Additionally, its use may clear away negative energy while possibly providing some degree of protection against radiation exposure. Some researchers even suspect it contains mild psychoactive elements called thujone that might make its use even more beneficial.
Many cultures believe that burning sage creates aromatic smoke to purify an individual, place or object – this process is known as “smudging”.
These smudge sticks are handcrafted from white sage harvested by Oglala Lakota member Tilden Reddest on the Pine Ridge Reservation and harvested by him from white sage harvesting operations in Oglala Lakota territory. White sage is widely believed to be effective at purifying, with reports that it removes bacteria, viruses, fungi and repelling mosquitoes; also believed to release negative ions into the air that neutralize positive ones which is good for health.
Blue Sage
Smudging with blue sage, commonly referred to as Grandmother Sage, is an ancient practice believed to provide spiritual strength. Like its white sage counterpart, blue sage can also cleanse one’s aura and eliminate negative energies from their environment. Most smudging kits come equipped with either an imitation eagle feather or turkey feather for spreading smoke during this ritual.
Hold the end of a bundle of sage until its leaves begin glowing and emitting smoke, then blow out the flame. Next, walk around your room directing smoke toward corners and closets as desired – some prefer clockwise action while others are more intuitive about their approach. Keeping the smudge stick visible at all times as this could set off smoke alarms is also recommended.
Cedar
Smudging with cedar is widely believed to help purify and shield spaces from negative energies. Our custom smudge kit comes complete with sweetgrass, sage and cedar for cleansing & protection – plus an abalone shell, quick-lite charcoal & mini fan!
Use smudging sticks to cleanse any area in your home or workspace. It is advised to move through spaces in a circular fashion to cover all corners and closets.
Most smudging kits also include a feather that you can waft around to direct the smoke, while certain sticks may feature crystals attached that add another element of healing and wellness to your ritual. Aragonite crystals in particular offer protection, grounding and balance as well as being great tools for relieving fear and anxiety.
Feather
Smudge sticks are bundles of herbs carefully bound with grass, string or cotton thread and used for ceremonies of purification, house blessings, spiritual cleansing of body and aura as well as to dispel negative energy.
Feathers have traditionally been used to use smoke purifying rituals on people or spaces being cleansed, providing an air purifier. When selecting an authentic white Hawk feather for this use it’s essential that it has been ethically and sustainably harvested; imitation Eagle feathers may also be available but many indigenous communities prefer more traditional White Hawk ones instead.
This kit includes a large 3″ White Sage Smudge Stick, two small 4″ Palo Santo Wood Smudging Sticks and one Abalone Shell on a wooden stand (5″-6″ diameter), with instructions.
Abalone Shell
Smudging is a traditional Native American cleansing ritual believed to rid homes, people, and crystals of negative energy. This kit comes complete with natural abalone shell, white sage, and palo santo for use during smudging sessions.
Sage can bring about an intuitive, spiritually aware state of being. It can aid with anxiety, depression, fear and pain relief – it is even regarded as sacred medicine by Native American communities.
